Preview: Fed Speaks: Yellen, Harker, Lockhart, Powell, Kashkari - Barclays

Fed Chair Yellen (FOMC voter) speaks: Yellen will speak at a minority banking conference. She will likely focus on banking issues but in the Q&A, if asked about policy or the economy, we expect her to reiterate her comments from the September press conference and do not expect any new information on her views.

Philadelphia Fed President Harker (FOMC non-voter) speaks: Harker speaks on the economic outlook. Harker called for a rate hike before the June FOMC meeting. Given the level of dissent apparent at the September meeting, we look for any shift in Harker’s tone, especially his level of commitment to a hike before year-end.

Atlanta Fed President Lockhart (FOMC non-voter) speaks: Lockhart speaks on the economy. Lockhart has shifted increasingly hawkish in recent months. We expect him to call forcefully for a near-term rate hike.

Fed Governor Powell (FOMC voter) speaks: Powell will speak on community banking. We expect no monetary policy content.

Minneapolis Fed President Kashkari (FOMC non-voter) speaks: Kashkari speaks on the economy. Kashkari’s primary interest has been on too big to fail. However, in recent comments, he discussed the ongoing shortfall in inflation. We expect him to maintain a soft dovish tilt in his comments.
